Production Food - P.F. Chang's At Planet Hollywood

Working in the film and television industry which frequents Las Vegas, I have many experiences with local eateries.  Some are good, some are not. Frankly most Las Vegas restaurants are below the standards of any other major city I have worked in, on various accounts. Some are gems to be coveted. In this blog series, I rate my experiences in Las Vegas restaurants, so YOU can be prepared...

The Ethics Of Greed #1 - (Sc)Amazon Studios and "Legalized" Intellectual Property Theft

The above video was produced by Totally Sketch in response to the Totally Scammy structure of "Amazon Studios" - which is designed (intentionally or not - you be the judge) to alienate writers and film makers from their work and make it completely unmarketable - except as adapted with or without compensation by Amazon and/or its assignees (ie., "major Hollywood producers").

A Great Quote From Lloyd Kaufman

All the people who whine about how they would make the greatest movie in the entire world if only they had fifty million bucks are full of shit. If you can’t make something you are proud of for $500.00, another $49,999,500 isn’t going to help.
… from Sell Your Own Damn Movie, by Lloyd Kaufman

I agree. By the way, the point is not making something for $500, but it is about making something at all. People who whine “if only” don’t create. Anything. So in fact they have no moral right to complain.

Lovecraft's "At The Mountains Of Madness" WILL Be Made!

Los Angeles CaliforniaNBC-Universal balked at Guillermo del Toro and James Cameron’s much publicized pitch for del Toro’s film adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s At The Mountains Of Madness in March, and del Toro had to move on to other projects. Horror and sci-fi fans around the world were disappointed because one of the most anticipated films in years would not be made.

Was Lovecraft’s At The Mountains Of Madness Ever Alive?

Guillermo Del Toro and James Cameron departed from At The Mountains Of Madness, which they were trying to get NBC Universal to fund, in mid-March scarcely 12 hours after del Toro announced a start date in June 2011. A surprise after working so hard to get the film up? Well, reading between the lines, one can see that Universal was probably always on the fence and del Toro may never really have been near the green light.

The Ethics Of Greed #2 - The Amazon Studios Model

Those who work – yes, I said “work,” and I meant it – in the entertainment industry (itself not always known for high ethical standards) value the talent, hard-won skill, time and sweat that goes into creating an engaging and marketable entertainment product. They know that creating entertainment (especially film and video) is an extremely complex process involving collaborative skills from many people, and they are prepared to underwrite the effort monetarily and with their own time, effort, talent and sweat.
